Acts 6:3 (NIV) "Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom. We (the pastors) will turn this responsibility (care of widows and waiting on tables) over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word."
Who is my deacon?
If you have joined the church and are a member, then you are automatically assigned a deacon. Non-members may request a deacon assignment by contacting the church office.
What does a deacon do?
- PRAYS WITHOUT CEASING.... for his church and his families
- PROVIDES COMFORT.... during times of loss
- BRINGS ENCOURAGEMENT.... to counter despair
- HELPS.... connect people with resources they need
- COMMUNICATES.... with his families regularly
What if God calls me to be a deacon?
Don't panic!
This sort of thing happens all the time. God does not call the equipped; he equips the called. So get busy praying about it and check out these qualifications, guidelines, and resources for deacons.
How can I help?
- Let your deacon get to know you (he will be staying in touch regularly)
- Contact your deacon if you need help of any sort
- Prayerfully consider joining the women's Shepherd's Helpers Group
